Example: if you are using card number 421 you can change to a new sequence 422 card by removing the 421 code card and installing a 421/422 code card. The switch will not accept either the 421 or 422 card. Once all the 422 code cards have been distributed, remove the 421/422 code card and install the 422 code card. Now all unwanted 421 cards are locked out. This is ideal for rental collection dues, or to change codes in the event a card is lost or stolen.
